Over the last few months both Emma andJohn have each reviewed a pair of CrossFit specific shorts. So, I thought it was time for to me to throw my review into the ring.

This week we take a moment to review WOD GEAR’S range — In particular, “The Throwbacks Pro” shorts.

More than 300 CrossFit competitors representing 80 teams will converge inside the historic Rose Bowl Saturday to compete in the 2nd annual WOD Gear Team Series competition.

The eight-hour event, which is expected to attract at least 1,500 spectators, is bringing CrossFit athletes of all levels from around the state and Nevada to compete for cash prizes up to $5,000.

"CrossFit is an emerging fitness rage going on around the globe," Gabriel Pelino, who owns WOD Gear Clothing in South Pasadena and is organizing the event, said this week.

On my very first day of CrossFit—a fundamentals course—I wore a pair of shorts that still haunt me to this day. They were navy blue mesh shorts with an interior lining that came down to a little lower than mid-thigh. I’ve worn them before to do everything from rake the yard and read a book to take a walk and ride my bike. Despite having not worked out in them all that much, I really didn’t think they’d cause me many issues.

I was a wrong.

For skill work that evening, we did partner handstands, where you kick up your legs into the hands of another person. Not too brag but for my first day, my handstands were actually quite good (thanks, yoga!)—that is until my short legs shifted down and I looked like a was wearing adult pull-ups. Still, it was a short amount of time, and my partner—did I mention I was paired up with my coach?!?!—didn’t point and laugh. I figured I survived.

It may be shorts season, but sometimes -- when working out, especially -- we want a little extra coverage. The Reebok CrossFit Games are over but don’t fret there is more to come! WOD Gear Clothing Co. in Pasadena, California is hosting the 2nd annual WOD Gear Team Series on July 28th. More than 70 teams will compete at the Rose Bowl Stadium drawing 3,000 or more spectators.

WOD Gear Clothing Co is sponsoring 17 year old Valerie Calhoun from Northern California. She is one of the world’s youngest female Crossfit competitors. I had the pleasure (via email) of interviewing book author, CrossFitter and co-owner of WOD Gear, Gabriel Pelino and Crossfit competitor Valerie Calhoun.

A 275-pound deadlift, 48 pull-ups, back squatting twice her weight. CrossFit competitor and WOD Gear Team Clothing Co. athlete Valerie Calhoun is known for putting up some pretty impressive numbers, but there's one that elicits the most gasps: her age. Calhoun started CrossFit at 13 and now at 17 is the youngest woman to compete in the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games. While her youth may surprise others, it doesn't faze her. Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few months, you've no doubt heard of CrossFit -- perhaps you've even taken a class or seen competitions on TV (or saw SELF's exclusive workouts in our October 2011 issue!). This is a big month for the sport/gym-class hybrid: The second annual Reebok Crossfit Games, where the winners will be declared the "Fittest on Earth," take place July 13-15, while other elite competitors will face off in the WOD Gear Team Series event July 28 and 29.

WOD (Work out of the day) Gear Clothing company today announced its call for (https://mywodtime.com/wgts) entrants for the 2012, 2nd annual, Team Series competition taking place on July 28th on the field at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena. Over 3,000 spectators are expected to fill the stands of the Rose Bowl to watch 72 teams of crossfitters compete in a one-of-a-kind crossfitting event that will raise funds for Barbells for Boobs and Soldiers' Angels.

“We are very excited about our 2nd annual Team WOD Gear Series competition,” Gabriel Pelino, owner and co-creator of WOD Gear Clothing and WOD Gear Team Series, said. “We chose the Rose Bowl as our venue to give the Crossfit community the opportunity to compete in an arena where champions are made. Very few can say that they have competed in the Rose Bowl!”
